I’m proud to announce I have recieved a Silver Award in the 2011 Better Photography Magazine, Photo of the Year Awards. Better Photography is one of my favourite Australian photography magazines and occasionally I’ll give the competitions a go, just to see how I go. Not a category winner, but I’m happy to get a score of over 80 which is better than I have done before.
The photo I entered is of the peak of Mt Cook amongst the Southern Alps on the South Island of New Zealand I took from a Helicopter ride up to 3800meters above sea level. This sight is the greatest I have ever seen and I was high enough to see both the east and west coasts of New Zealand at the same time. This stunning image is now one of the many fine art prints I offer for sale with a limit to 10 editions only. Be the first to get edition one with any of the prices listed below.
10 Editions
8×12” Metallic Print in Gallery Frame $110
12×16” Metallic Print in Gallery Frame $170
8×12” Craftwood Mount (Met. Paper) $110
20×30” Craftwood Mount (Met. Paper) $300
20×30” Metallic Print Only $160
16×24” i-Direct Acrylic Mount $400
20×30” i-Direct Acrylic Mount $470
Print Glossary
I-Direct Acrylic Mounts – A unique and ultra modern mount made from clear Archival Grade Acrylic with the image bonded to the back using a UV curing process. This makes the print impervious to condensation build up and mould attack. Colours are accurate and the detail is brilliant. The mounting method utilises a channel system and a spacer to give a floating appearance on the wall. The image is also completely borderless, so not to distract from it.
Craftwood (MDF) Mounting – A print is bonded to a 10mm Medium Density Fibreboard Panel with black edges and utilises the channel mount system. Not recommended for areas exposed to steam or any moisture. The Craftwood Mount is a well priced alternative to other mount types.
Metallic Paper Prints – This paper is the most striking paper type on the market, which is perfectly suited for landscape photographs. The image takes on an almost 3Dimensional quality with incredible detail and explosive colours. The finish is high gloss and it can be either framed in traditional frames, bonded to Craftwood or Foam Core.
If the print were to be exposed it is laminated in an archival grade lacquer for longevity.
Gallery Frame – This frame is what is known as a traditional black wooden frame with a white matt. This is so the frame is not distracting from the artwork. It comes with a basic rope for hanging.

Boy has it been a busy last few months with me having a few wedding gigs to finish off and meeting some more wonderful couples that will be getting married next year. With all the new weddings to come, there should be mountains of blog material coming your way.
- Future bookings: Bookings for 2011 have been closed off to wedding clients, the calendar is simply full and all is booked solid until the end of April 2012. During these times I still will be taking on engagement photography sessions and commercial photography commissions.
- MV Photography will be overseas from August 8th until August 19th for some ‘sit by the pool time’ during the wedding off season to relax and spend some time with wife Belinda. During this time I won’t be able to take any phone calls or reply to emails in many cases (i’ll be quite remote), so I’ll endeavour to get back to you as soon as I land back home.
- Some new gear has been added to the bag during the last 6 months; a Canon 5D Mk II 21MegaPixel beast for ultra high resolution prints, a Sigma 50mm f1.4 prime lens and for travel purposes I bought a new wide angle zoom, the Tokina 20-35mm f2.8 and a Vanguard Up-Rise 28 Camera Bag, which I’ll talk about in future posts. Still on the cards is a good wide angle prime lens, but I’ll need to give that one some time I think.
- In late August I’ll have a fashion shoot for a very exciting up and coming designer based in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. This shoot will hopefully boost her to stardom, so I’ll keep you posted on that one.
- The pricing guide for 2012 is now in development with some new formatting changes, new images and if time allows some new printed products. I am just struggling with time at the moment to organise product samples, so hopefully in time we’ll have some exquisite new coffee table books and new wall hangings.
- Look out soon for photos of Zoe and Ryan’s wedding, photographed at Inglewood Estate, Kangaroo Ground.

Enjoy the rest of the images from Nicole and Billy’s amazing Phillip Island and San Remo Wedding. It was an absolute joy to be with you guys and your very cool bridal party on your special day!

The boys crack the first drink of the day

The rings kept safe in their boxes

The tie goes on

Mum sees her boy all dresses up

The boys all ready to go and looking snazzy

I wonder what Nicole is thinking here?

The girls having a laugh before heading out to the ceremony

Seeing her husband to be for the first time today

Awwwww

The proof!

Coloured paper explosion

The ceremony is done!

The light was nice and soft under the bridge, away from the still high sun

An image of some rain drops on a flower from my new Canon G12 Compact
Hi all, it has been a busy December for MV Photography, so what’s been happening:
- Just completed a job for fellow photographer Justin Hill of Dekuji Photo. He is an amazing photographer with an exceptionally creative vision, and it was a pleasure to work for him. Watch this space for photos which will come right after they are delivered to his clients.
- All specialised print and mounting cut offs as well as any book orders for the print lab have past or are fast approaching in the next day or so. I am still taking orders for loose Kodak Lustre prints up until midnight 18th of December for delivery on the 24th in local areas only.
- After Christmas time I’ll be releasing an exclusive and beautiful product available for purchase, which would have been better released before Christmas, but time has got away from me this December. Keep an eye on this space to see pics and pricing.
- Just completed a product photography job for a local gift shop called the Pirate Chest. Images coming soon.
- The Christmas holidays will be time to catch up on some behind the scenes business stuff as well as we’ll be taking a small holiday down to the South East coast so MV Photography won’t be available at this time. I hope to come back with some nice pics too. In the New Year we’ll see a new business card, some new Photobook Samples, a Landscape Art price list, probably a revised weddings price list and hopefully some website structure revisions.
- I am liking my Canon G12 camera purchase. It operates much better than the Nikon P7000 I had for my Honeymoon and the pictures are, so far, sharper and more lively.
- A new lens came in the mail the other day, but it was faulty! Another one coming soon hopefully as this will surely change my shooting style a bit. I’ll make a post when it arrives.
- Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Facebook feed to keep up with all the latest posts.

- Yes, I’m still alive, I have just been flat out catching up with family and friends after my Honeymoon with Belinda to the South Island of New Zealand. I am also sorting through the thousands of images and video clips as well to make a DVD slideshow.
- Product reviews are still coming, they are just being written in the background slowly but surely.
- My Nikon P7000 Compact Camera unfortunately failed on me so it made a trip back to Ted’s Cameras. I’m not sure if I want to get another one of go with the old faithful Canon G series. I will still post my thoughts on my experience with though.
- My November portrait shoots have been postponed until possibly January, but I’ll keep busy with some product work and other little side projects.
- Next years wedding season if slowly filling up with spots left in only mid April, late June and late July. I could also fit one in early to mid January if you like your summer weddings!
- That’s all for now as this was a quick catch up until I post some more of the promised stuff. I will also be posting some pictures from my Honeymoon along with some critique and technique tutorials.

Hi all, a busy month has passed in preparation for my own wedding to my fiance Belinda this October, I’ll try to post as much as I can over the coming months to keep you informed on all things MV Photography.
- MV Photography will be closed for the month of October as we’ll be overseas for the majority of the month on our honeymoon. Email enquiries are still welcome and we’ll try to reply to them when we can as we’ll have limited Internet access
- My new new release print newsletter will be delayed until I get some more time. I’ll try to release it over the coming weeks so people can read it while we’re overseas
- I finally have my iPhone 4 and I’m having a lot of fun with the in built camera and photography apps. I have started a little iPhone gallery on my Flick page.
- A few new products have been added to the collection to feed my gear acquisition syndrome; a new bag from Kata and a new pro level compact camera from Nikon

The Kata 3n1-33 camera bag is probably close to the ultimate camera bag. When you are a photographer or even just a keen amateur, the search for the perfect camera bag goes on for years and costs thousands of dollars. This is my 8th camera bag and it ticks most of the boxes, I’ve already used it on a couple of product photography jobs and the capacity of bag is stellar, it is comfortable to wear and it is easy to get to the gear inside. After we come back from our trip I’ll give you a review to see how it performed on the task it was designed for (the ultimate travel photography bag).

Just added to the bag this week is the new Nikon P7000 Pro Compact Camera which only got released a couple of days ago so I haven’t even had a chance to have a play with it just yet. First impressions out of the box are great, it looks good, the menus are relatively intuitive, it is lighter than expected and all the dials and controls seem to be firm and of a good solid quality. One thing I think would be great is you can set back button focusing which suits my shooting style.
Many online user are mixed with mentions of average image quality and slow write times for writing a RAW file to the memory card. I am a stickler for quality, but I mainly purchased this camera as a handy macro (close-up) device for use at weddings and as a take anywhere camera for my travels. I doubt I will ever print anything bigger than 8×10 with this camera and with my knowledge about image sharpening in Photoshop I think I’ll get some great sharp images. I’ll also be using this camera for experimentation with time lapse photography so stay tuned for a review soon.
- In other news stay tuned this November for both personal projects photo shoots and a couple of portrait sessions. Be sure to connect through Facebook to keep up to date with the latest posts and keep tabs on specials and competitions.

The long awaited release of Lightroom 3 has finally arrived much sooner than anticipated and with even more features loaded into it than the Beta version that was available up until about 8 months ago. The new features will make any photographer’s job easier as well as give their clients a more professional result in less time. These include industry leading Noise Reduction for high ISO images, Camera Tethering to a computer, a new Slideshow Export to Flash with music imbedding, newer and easier to use Printing Module, Photo Collections right in the Develop Module and the biggest kicker here is the Lens Correction feature. The Lens Correction and the Noise Reduction is worth the price alone for me, allowing me not to worry about lens distortions in camera and boosting the ISO beyond ISO1600 when I need to capture that important moment in low light.
Previous wedding clients will now see a new lease on their images when purchasing prints and photo books as some of the images allow greater cropping and enlargement options. I’ll even be able to dig up some more images from the archives that I thought weren’t suitable for showing, as now I can change them to better suit my vision from when I took the photograph.
For a full run down on the product and to purchase head to Adobe’s website here.

- Thanks to all that contributed registrations of interest with MV Photography for Digital SLR training. I am still taking ideas and feedback, so read the post below for further details.
- I am still choosing a quality photobook supplier for my range of wedding photography albums. There of course is an extensive range, but I’m choosing carefully to ensure quality and great value.
- New business cards and brochures are in development at the moment, so stay tuned.
- More of favourite images from the archives will be posted in the coming weeks including some that have never seen the light of day from my trip to the United States in 2008 and some more wedding photos.
- To give you all a taste of some photography training I am posting some of my own images with critiques attached. This is to show some of the thought processes when I’m behind the camera, the metering and focusing modes I used, the use of aperture and shutter speed as well as elaborate on my vision for the photograph from capture to print.
- In the coming months I will be running a quick and easy competition to any followers out there. Stay tuned for the details, but you can win a mounted, limited first edition landscape print from MV Photography.

Hi all, on my old blog I had a list of websites I always visited on a regular basis, which I never really updated. So every now and then I will post links to interesting websites, whether they are wedding related, photography in general, Photoshop related or of any inspirational photographers I follow. I’ll start with the ones below.
http://www.wpja.com/ A site i visit every now and then to juice up on images before I go shoot a wedding. It has great examples of award winning photojournalistic images all shot at weddings.
http://www.dpreview.com/ Where the nerd in me goes to get some user feedback on products, find out the latest gossip on gear not yet released and for some general time wasting.
http://www.canonrumors.com/ All the latest up to the minute Canon rumours are found here.
http://www.scottkelby.com/ The man that is the authority on all things Photoshop.
That will will do for now, but more will come in the near future.
