This one is from the 2008 USA holiday archives.
Leaving the Grand Canyon out to the east you are led passed a walking track to look out over the eastern most reaches of the canyon, still extending up to a 1000 foot depth.
It was still early morning as we rose for a sunrise photo shoot on the South Rim. The light got more interesting as the morning went on, resulting in spots of sunlight on the surrounding hills. The view you see here is when you are returning from the lookout. The hut you see there is an abandoned Indian Hut, which are quite numerous on this side of the Canyon. What was sad there was also an abandoned wreck of a ’69 Camaro there too.
I took an auto bracketed exposure of this scene as there was quite a bit of contrast from the rising sun. In post I did the usual RAW adjustments, but warming it up a bit and boosting the blacks. In Photoshop, I applied a series of adjustment layers to increase the drama of the light.
